Mad Cow

In The Four Loves, Lewis laments the exaltation of instinct from Romanticism on that may preclude male friendship, which reminded me of my favorite image of male friendship--Denny Crane and Alan Shore in Boston Legal. Pictures of male friendship are, indeed rare today, but Alan and Denny sipping scotch and smoking cigars on the balcony overlooking Boston is really an admirable portrayal. Their friendship transcends age difference and even Denny Crane's encroaching dementia. Their "sleepovers" when Alan has night terrors are endearing and their defense of one another in any (ridiculous, bizarre) scrapes is faithful, to say the least.
