A Prayer of St. Chrysostom

Almighty God, who hast given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication unto thee; and dost promise that when two or three are gathered together in thy Name thou wilt grant their requests; Fulfil now, O Lord, the desires and petitions of thy servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of thy truth, and in the world to come life everlasting.

One of the disciplines of the community that I'm part of this fall is morning and evening prayer from the Book of Common Prayer. This prayer is prayed at the very end of both morning and evening prayers. It's beautiful--it reminds us that the Lord knows better than we do how to fulfill our requests. Also, it reminds us in the midst of our requests that the main thing is knowledge of His truth in this world and life everlasting in the next. Although, to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't mind knowing lots of His truth at the moment, as it might help me out with the dissertation...
