The Waterfront

I'm just returned from and am settling in again after a trip to the West Coast and my first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean (I know, I know, it's only the Puget Sound). Seattle was lovely, from what I saw (almost all of my time, from morning to night, was consumed with the conference I was attending, but I slipped away to the art gallery and to the market and to the waterfront whenever I could).

The waterfront was lovely and relaxing--I love these cities (like Chicago, too) where the downtown is nestled right up against a big body of water. They put our little East Coast rivers to shame (who really wants to go relax by the Potomac?).

The mountains were a surprise! The first day there was too much fog to see them, but they appeared on the second day. The mountains look like ghost mountains hovering over everything in the distance, just barely visible.

There were yellow plastic Adirondack chairs by the water, which provided a comfortable place to watch the sun set. More on the book later. Green skirt thanks to Ilana (who provided helpful fashion advice via skype when I was taking my stress over the job market out on my clothes).
