NYC: 9/11 Memorial

Francisco and I visited the 9/11 Memorial, which our hosts called, respectively, "the pits" and "the holes."

They're two fountains set in the footprints of the World Trade Centers. The water disappears from view, as if falling into the center of the earth.

They are moving and dark.

There is, understandably, quite a lot of security to get into the memorial. This means, of course, that you can't just stroll by the fountains, as you can at other parks. You have to get a ticket and wait in line and go through a metal detector, taking off your coat and throwing away your water bottle, as if you're at the airport.
