Monday was a favorite day of the year--I played hooky and went to two thrift stores in the swankiest part of town. Francisco and I had brunch together, too.
I wore a tank top and shorts and tried things on on top, embarrassingly wrangling with the latch on too-tight jeans in public. (It took me back to the deep embarrassment of Nana making me try stuff on at yard sales.) (But you know what, it's Goodwill that got rid of the dressing rooms.) And I got a wardrobe refresh for me and the boys for $120, including like three things that were brand new.
I laughed to myself thinking of MSI's search for the perfect pair of jeans. The fun thing about thrift stores is that you don't have to ever answer this question--you just buy what is there and fits. Serendipitous.
Sadly, there was nothing showing at the nearby movie and burgers and beer spot that Francisco and I enjoy.
We made it back in time for me to join the champagne celebration for two colleagues who were awarded, as they ruefully say, the golden handcuffs.
No metaphor here.

I would love to go thrift store shopping with you! At Goodwill today, I heard a disgruntled customer complain about the store charging high prices ("come on, they get it for FREE!") and a man responded she should go to the Saint Vincent de Paul, and I wholeheartedly agree. The old ladies there fawn over the kids and declare that each item in my basket is half off as they ring me up.
Aw--wish we were together to shop! Yes--the prices *are* high! They have to pay that CEO salary, after all. I didn't even realize we had a st. vincent de paul--will have to visit!
I should thrift the jeans. But now, the whole thrift store might be nothing but skinny jeans that other women have discarded in their own meandering searches for a non-horrible, non-skinny cut. Just the other day, I consigned two pairs of my own too-tight grad school era skinny jeans to that fate.
There are *a lot* of skinny jeans. I would like a pair of wide high waisted jeans--like that kind of navy look? But sadly there were none, so I bought what they had. But one was called democracy and is stylish but slightly cropped so I will have to wait till spring I guess.
