Summer

Today was a wonderful, exhausting day at a beach on a lake with not only Nana and Papa, but also Ilana and her whole family.

Blaze and Q swam and swam and swam. They barely got out of the water--and they spent most of the day under the water swimming around like fish. (They also developed something called "underwater wrestling," which was a little scary for me.)

It was wonderful to see Ilana's little ones. I've been so happy to get to spend some time with her newborn this summer and see him get so chubby and smiley. And her two-year-old is totally obsessed with the number 2. 2 grapes! 2 boys fall down! 2 everything. She narrates her life out loud, which is just delightful to hear. Today we made "hamburgers" out of sand, a rock, and a leaf, and then more sand. It's so fun to stretch my imagination a bit with the little ones.

Papa and I took a little walk.

And while we conked out after coming home, Nana made a gourmet dinner with kale and basil from the garden.

This morning I played Q's new card game with which he is obsessed. And on the way home we listened to an entertaining podcast about White Castle. There's one near our home, so I guess we'd better eat there once when we get back. It's the first hamburgers (maybe) and fast food--did you know that?!
