Last night was our long-awaited celebration of Q's writing award. It was poorly organized in the sense that he was told that he won 3rd, 2rd, or 1st. Last night he found out he won 3rd. I feel like awards ceremonies shouldn't be set up to disappoint you! (This whole business has meant a lot to him and he's been dreaming about it for weeks--including a dream that they put him in 4th place with no monetary prize.) Anyway, his teacher attended with us, which was super kind of her. Blaze cried because I wouldn't let him have a third cookie before dinner. We celebrated Q and then let him pick where we went to dinner afterward--he picked our very good local Mexican place. Which, unfortunately for me, is also very loud. But the kids played fusbol until the food came, and I survived. Leftovers in our lunches today.
Then, when we got home, Q suggested a game of chess--and beat me handily. That was not easy for me to swallow! He told me I need to work on my game, which really isn't going to happen. He and one of his friends have gotten deep into chess lately and are teaching chess to the rest of their class. Q has been reading a book about chess that takes you through the moves of a famous chess game?!
This week has had way too much in it, so I went to bed early last night and slept for 9 hours. (It was better than starting the grading that I really need to get underway.)
