School

This morning we all walked Blaze to his first day of kindergarten. That was so nice. (Except for the lack of sidewalks, the big busy road you have to cross, and the crossing guard who doesn't let you cross until there is an enormous gap--she never steps out with her stop sign to encourage the cars to stop.

Then I biked Q. He was so excited for school, he didn't even complain about the hill he had to climb on his bike. He wore a tie for the first day. (I would have encouraged him to reconsider if he had any trouble making friends, but he really doesn't. He's started working on a speech for student council after he and Francisco saw a school council bulletin board.)

I had such a wonderful half-day at work--unpacking, seeing the paintings in my office again and my books, and seeing colleagues. I've dreaded my return, but I actually felt surprisingly happy being back on campus again.

Then we all went to the dentist--everything was fine on that count except our wallets.

In the evening in addition to me being totally unreasonable and intense as we adjust to a new routine--making dinner, making lunches, practicing instruments, and so forth--I fixed my the brakes on my bike! The cables needed tightening, and I watched a video, and I tightened those cables. I needed Francisco for the strength part of the bolts, but otherwise--I did it. Unless you have as little skill as I do at mechanical tasks, you cannot really know the exhilaration I experience when I fix something. (I did this actually because the one bike shop in our town seems to have closed, and I guess I have to maintain my own bike now?!)

Reminds me of the time you changed your headlight, and then walked back in to LG announcing, “I am the coolest person you know.”

I was thinking about that too! My list of mechanical accomplishments is short and we can remember them all.

But I never said such a thing! ;)
